Tape Conversion

Why do I need to convert my VHS tapes to DVD?

If you do not convert your tapes to a stable format the VHS material will start degrading after 10 years time and will significantly degrade from 15 years time from filming onwards, until the tape will no longer be viewable. DVD presents a cost effect, stable, and long lasting alternative to VHS tapes for storage.

Why should I choose DVD as a back up format versus other tape or digital formats?
DVD players have become the de-facto standard in digital video playback, which means the format will be used and updated for some time to come. In addition, once your videos are in a digital format, their conversion to future digital formats becomes much easier.

Tape back-up is also a viable option, but it is less cost effective at higher video standards. In addition, it is less accessible to the average video user. We will also accommodate tape back up and copies, depending on your needs.

What will happen to my tapes once I give them to Vchange?
We will use your tapes to make your DVD masters. We will then return your tapes with your completed DVDs.

How long will this process take?
Our general turnaround time is less than a week for normal orders. For larger or custom orders, turnaround time may vary.
